Online Lecture: The Book of Scraps
Join the Society of Scribes to welcome Margaret Morgan on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 2:00 PM EDT for a free online lecture.
Meet Margaret Morgan for a fascinating talk on The Book of Scraps, or how to use your ingenuity to fill boring blank pages, then one thing leads to another…
Are your flat files bulging with oversized sheets of practice paper from the thousands of workshops you’ve taken over the years? Are your shoeboxes stuffed with aborted sketches you resolved to return to one day when you “got good”? Are your notebooks filled with page after page of experimental and quirky lettering you thought had great potential but allowed to gather cobwebs because you were stymied as to how to go further with them?
If that is you, and probably just about all of us, then escape the doldrums of a muggy August afternoon and refresh yourself by attending Magical Margaret Morgan’s eye-opening presentation of working with letters you once thought had given up the ghost. Using many visuals and pithy commentary, Margaret will demonstrate how she resurrected letters left for dead and transformed them into creative pieces of art, sometimes whimsical, sometimes ambiguous, but always visually intriguing.
Margaret’s journey into the unknown began as a writing/bookbinding exercise using both blank pages, pages of diverse color schemes, and bits of scrap paper to fill in some gaps and make the pages more visually compelling.
Do join us for a dazzling show and discussion that is bound to get you back to those papers long left fallow in an attic.
