There will also be demonstrations that includes washes, Itajime/Awagami Orizome-shi, marbling with pastels, writing on black paper, etc.

Bring lots of questions! We’ll possibly do a Q&A afterwards.

MATERIALS LIST

Many of these can be purchased from Dick Blick, but you can also order online from Paper and Ink Arts or John Neal for more specialized calligraphy supplies. Order in advance to account for shipping times!

  • W&N gouache - Primary Blue, Primary Red and Lemon Yellow plus Jet Black and Permanent white. Other companies that can be used are Holbein, Daniel Smith. Schmincke, Utrecht and Royal Talens. Their pigments and binders are different, creating slightly different colors. **

  • Dr. Ph. Martin’s pen white

  • Mixing brushes, water containers 

  • Your favorite nibs and holders - Mitchell, Brause, Speedball, etc. in the larger sizes

  • Plastic Paint cups with 12 spaces/covers for mixing the colors

  • Canson Mix Media, 7” by 10”

  • Paper towels, pencil and paper for note taking

Marcy Robinson

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Marcy Robinson is an award-winning lettering artist residing in New Jersey. She has studied with Julian and Sheila Waters and has taken workshops with many other lettering and design artists. She was one of several artists featured in the Spring 2011 and Winter 2019 issues of Alphabet, the journal of The Friends of Calligraphy and designed the Alphabet logo for the 2011 issues.

Her work may be seen in 100 New York Calligraphers, edited by Cynthia Dantzic; Manuale Calligraphicum by Jerry Kelly; Morphing Monograms by Barry Morentz and Marcia Friedman; and An Italic Calligraphy Handbook by Carolyn Joy Adams; and The World Encyclopedia of Calligraphy by Christopher Calderhead and Holly Cohen.
