Society of Scribes is thrilled to announce our incredible online workshop lineup!

We’ve been hard at work putting together new opportunities for calligraphic education in this new online world. Here’s a sneak preview of what’s in store!

Our first stop is Italy, where one of the foremost practitioners and interpreters of blackletter today, Luca Barcellona, will be presenting a five-week journey from textura to fraktur and beyond, with one foot firmly planted in the letterform’s gothic roots, and the other in the expressiveness of the urban scriptorium.

Next, we’ll meet up with Elmo van Slingerland in the Netherlands. Elmo has been in high demand, teaching his inimitable style of Roman capitals to awed students worldwide. He now turns his attention to Roman minuscules, using the same quality of refined elegance, imbued with personality and character that is unmistakably Elmo.

Then stay tuned early next year, where we’ll learn how to add some pizzazs and razsmatasz to our pointed-pen scripts by incorporating the skilled hand of Golden Age Hungarian-American penman Louis Madarasz, by way of Schin Loong of OpenInkStand Art & Calligraphy from Lasz Vegasz.

And it’s a trip to England, where we’ll study the painted inscriptions of the Welsh-British artist and poet, David Jones, through the most capable of guides, renowned scholar-calligrapher Ewan Clayton.

Luca’s workshop is available for registration starting today! Become a Society of Scribes member to get a heads up on all future class registrations with early-bird access.
