Online Workshop

Beginning Italic with Marcy Robinson

The workshop will introduce the student to the fundamentals of the italic alphabet.

The basic letterforms for the upper and lower case will be explained and demonstrated. Variations will be examined in order to expand the student’s repertoire. The dos and don’ts of flourishing will be discussed. The basic elements of design will be reviewed. There will also be demonstrations on the kinds of papers, pens, gouaches and inks that may be used. Bring lots of questions. Intermediate level students who wish to refine their letterforms are also welcome.

In the week between each live session, students will have time to practice, ask questions on the class forum, and submit assignments online for instructor critique.
